Texas Hold ‘Em’s popularity skyrocketed with this win as amateurs felt they had a chance to win against professionals. The “Moneymaker Effect” helped grow Texas Hold ‘Em to what it is today. With this, Texas Hold ‘Em became the most popular poker game in the world.

Texas Hold ‘Em has very simple rules. A table may be composed of as little as two people or as many as ten people. A dealer is chosen at random at the beginning and this position is rotated clockwise. The player to the left of him is the small blind, and the player to the left of the small blind is the big blind. The big blind puts up a designated amount before the hand begins and the small blind puts up half that amount. These mandatory bets are called “blinds.” All players are dealt two cards facedown. The first betting round begins with the person to the left of the big blind who must fold, call (match the bet) the big blind, or raise. Play continues similarly until all players make decisions and all bets on the table are identical. Three community cards come out after the pre-flop betting round is complete; these three cards and betting round are called the flop. Post-flop and pre-flop play are identical with the exception of the small blind starting the post-flop action. Players may check if nobody has bet behind them. All players see two more community cards: one on the turn and one on the river. Both these cards have a round of betting accompanied with it. All cards still in the hand are shown after the river’s round of betting and the best five-card poker hand wins. Players may use both, one, or none of their hole cards if they so choose.
